Number of Bi-Weekly Hours: 37.Existing Vacancy: Yes - we're currently hiring candidates for an existing vacancy in this position.
The Driver, Meal Transportation provides regular assistance to clients by transporting nutritional meals through our Meals on Wheels program.
Ensure the safe delivery of meals to clients as part of the Meals on Wheels program.
Maximize safety through daily maintenance of the driver’s primary vehicle and ensure all necessary certification is current
Abides by all confidentiality and protection of personal information policies, regulations, and practices and ensures appropriate safeguards are in place within their role
Abide by the VON Volunteer/Community Support Services Driving Agreement
Abides by all VON policies and work practices including any event and incident reports
All other duties as assigned and delivery of service according to schedules
Promotes the goals and values of VON and its role as an integrated community care provider.
Promotes a safe and healthy workplace ensuring workplace conduct and activities are in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and compliant with the VON Safety Management System, including all Policies, Safe Work Practices, and Procedures.
Abides by all VON policies and work practices.
Abides by all confidentiality and protection of personal information policies, regulations, and practices and ensures appropriate safeguards are in place within their role.
Works in collaboration with other staff in a team approach to service delivery.
Regularly engage with and support clients in the process of meeting their transportation needs

High school diploma
A minimum of one year of experience working with seniors and adults with disabilities
Able to work with accessible equipment e.g. wheelchairs, motorized scooters, walkers, mechanical lifts and Q-straint tie down system.
Reliable, dependable, and flexible.
Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 35 pounds using appropriate lifting techniques.
Must be able to engage in physical activity as a regular component of the job.
Ability to speak Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic, or French is an asset.
Must possess a valid driver’s permit and a clean driver’s abstract. Must provide proof of required insurance coverage when using a personal vehicle.
A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required upon the start of employment.
A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or a Child Abuse Registry Check is required.
The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required
This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics.
