<p>Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of lonely and isolated seniors?</p><p>Society of Sharing is seeking compassionate individuals like you to become <strong>Group Socialization Facilitators</strong> to help host gatherings for residents of a local community housing building.</p><p><strong>Position: </strong>Group Socialization Facilitator<br><strong>Volunteers needed:</strong> 2<br><strong>Type: </strong>In-person (Downtown Toronto)<br><strong>Reports to: </strong>Program coordinator<br><br><strong>Time commitment:</strong> From 1:30 - 4:00 pm on Wednesday per week (Group Socialization Location: Wednesdays – by Queen and Spadina)</p><p><strong>Position summary:</strong><br>As a Group Socialization Facilitator, you will play a vital role in creating a warm and engaging environment where clients can connect, socialize, and enjoy meaningful interactions.<br><br><strong>Volunteer duties and responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>Arrange snacks and drinks for gatherings.</li><li>Set up the meeting room prior to clients' arrival.</li><li>Provide assistance to clients in wheelchair positioning or preparing beverages.</li><li>Decorate the room for special occasions and holidays.</li><li>Serve drinks and snacks to clients upon their arrival.</li><li>Engage in conversations with clients, fostering introductions and connections.</li><li>Offer to play games or crafts to interested clients.</li></ul><p><strong>Volunteer skills and qualifications:</strong></p><ul><li>Be 18 years old or older.</li><li>Ability to speak English and and other languages that our residents speak is an asset, such as Cantonese and Mandarin.</li><li>Have a sincere interest in working with seniors and adults with disabilities.</li><li>Possess sensitivity to the needs and challenges faced by older adults.</li><li>Exhibit patience, compassion, and a desire to help vulnerable and isolated seniors.</li><li>Dependable and punctual.</li><li>Excellent communication and active listening skills.</li><li>Strong organizational abilities.</li><li>Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.</li><li>Experience in initiating conversations and engaging clients in social activities is an asset.</li></ul><p><strong>Other requirements:</strong></p><ul><li>Vulnerable sector check.</li><li>Proof of full Covid-19 vaccination or medical exemption certificate.</li></ul><p><strong>Training and orientation:</strong></p><ul><li>Will be provided.</li></ul><p><strong>Benefits:</strong></p><ul><li>Give back to the community.</li><li>Develop skills/gain new skills.</li><li>Meet people, build your network.</li><li>Gain experience working with seniors.</li><li>And MANY MORE!</li></ul><p><strong>About Society of Sharing:</strong><br>Society of Sharing is a charitable non-profit organization founded in 1981, dedicated to reducing social isolation and promoting social connection among isolated seniors.
