About the position

The Clinical Informatics Nurse Specialist serves as a pivotal figure in the integration and optimization of clinical information and communication systems within healthcare settings. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including acting as a clinical expert, consultant, leader, researcher, and educator. The specialist is tasked with reviewing, recommending, designing, developing, implementing, maintaining, supporting, optimizing, and evaluating clinical information systems in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team that includes healthcare professionals, information services, vendors, and other informatics experts. In this capacity, the Clinical Informatics Nurse Specialist leads and manages initiatives aimed at enhancing clinical information systems, ensuring that they meet the evolving needs of clinicians and patients. This includes providing oversight during system downtimes and emergency preparations, as well as offering clinical data stewardship, analysis, and visualization creation. The specialist acts as a liaison between various teams, clinicians, leadership, and information services, facilitating effective communication and collaboration regarding clinical information systems. Moreover, the role involves participating in the system development life cycle (SDLC) for clinical information systems, which includes project planning, workflow assessment, systems analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance. The specialist identifies opportunities for optimizing clinical system functionality and workflows, collaborates on educational content development, and supports end users throughout the system's life cycle. By evaluating safety, effectiveness, cost, clinical quality, and regulatory compliance, the Clinical Informatics Nurse Specialist ensures that clinical information systems are not only functional but also enhance the quality of patient care. Additionally, the specialist contributes to the nursing informatics body of knowledge by disseminating best practices through presentations and publications, while also maintaining and advancing their own knowledge through continuing education. Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Nursing required or Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
